You did NOT rape that exam, and it most certainly did not rape you!

While I’m on here and in the mood (the blogging mood, you silly people!), something I’ve been meaning to talk about is the word “rape”.  If there is one thing I find really offensive, it’s the use of the word “rape” to describe successfully achieving, or conversely, failing, any activity.  Saying things like “I totally just raped that exam” or, “That exam totally raped me” is not okay.  Rape should not be a colloquial term used to express glee or displeasure.  Rape is serious, and using it in any other context other than the horrendous situation to which it applies, is in itself, a horrendous thing to do.

All I’m saying is watch what you say.  You don’t know someone’s experiences, just like they don’t know yours, and think about the offensive punch a sentence like that packs.
